“So how’ve you been? You’re looking especially good tonight. Happier than I’ve seen in a while.” The handsome mothman sitting across from me gestures to the grin that’s been on my face for the last week.

My smile grows even wider and if my skin wasn’t already pink, I’m sure I’d appear flushed. “I’m good. Really good. How are you, Rowan?”

His mottled brown wings flutter and spread out a bit as he leans forward to grab his whiskey. “Oh, you know…the usual. Busy and stressed, but okay. Job’s fine. Tomas is still an angel, thank the gods.”

Rowan is a regular at Heaven’s Door, though he doesn’t come in nearly as often since he took custody of his sister’s baby. We’ve bonded over time, and now when he visits, it’s like seeing an old friend rather than a patron. He always gets a private room, but just wants to chat and hang out in our monster forms.

“Well, I’m glad you could make it out to see me! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”

“Too long!” He sighs as he takes another sip of his drink, the tightness in his shoulders easing.

“You need some help with that tension?” I wink at him, knowing he’s not likely to take me up on the offer of a lap dance.

“Tempting, but I think I’ll stick with talking tonight. Unless you need to feed?”

“I’ll be fine. I…I’m seeing someone, so my hunger is more focused these days.”

“Oh, that’s exciting. Please tell me it isn’t that asshole from before.” Rowan grimaces as he thinks about my terrible ex.

“No! He’s a witch and a total sweetheart. I really like him.”

Rowan cocks an eyebrow. “Why am I sensing a but?”

“He’s perfect! I want him so much. And not just for sex. But gods, I want that too.”

I’ve been in a constant state of hunger since Shane and I started dating, and feeding from patrons at the club doesn’t fully sate it. I crave him. We’ve been on dates almost every day over the past week, but I haven’t made another move since that morning after coffee. The more time we spend together, the more certain I am in my affection for him. I don’t want to scare him off or push him away.

“Wait.” His eyes widen. “You’re not sleeping with him?”

“Ugh, I really shouldn’t be telling you this. Promise me this stays in this room, Ro.”

He nods solemnly. “I promise. Is it something terrible? Did a hag curse his dick off or something?”

I laugh at the thought, some of my worry easing. “He’s a virgin. Which wouldn’t be a problem, but he’s so worried about performing and coming too soon. I don’t want to pressure him to go too fast or make him uncomfortable. So I’m waiting for him to make the next move.”

“Wow, I can see why that’d be tricky. Poor guy, he must be jacking off 24/7 if he’s dating you and you’re not fucking.”

“He’s not the only one! I’ve gone through an entire pack of batteries from how much I’ve used my vibrators.
